TV Sketching on the iPad, part 02
It’s funny, how interesting the human face and body are when I’m sketching. If you look at my “work”, there are no people but if you look in my sketchbooks, there are tons.
lt feels like a no-brainer, to try and capture a pose or a gesture, and it’s the most natural thing in the world, when seeing a sketch of someone, to try and figure out what their story is. In some of these I’m making an effort to look less at the actors and more at the sets, and the filmed compositions. I’m interested in now the television frame is filled. Often, very often, the actors are dead center. This makes it easier for the editor to cut between actors, and easier for viewers to follow the action. The thing that’s in the middle of the frame is usually the most important thing. But I don’t make sequential images, meaning I have a little more leeway in where I put the “important” parts of any composition.
I’m not sure if I learned anything specific from this show, but I’ll keep sketching as move onto the next and it’ll interesting to see if the drawings change.
