Zehn Fotos, August

With two photography posts in a row, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this is turning into a photoblog. It’s not, but I’m definitely enjoying spending more time with my camera these days.

I’ve had a dedicated camera for just shy of two years now and I’ve not yet grown tired of it. I’ve carried cameras in the past. In my 20s I was shooting quite a bit but never took it as seriously as I wanted to. Circumstances put some nice cameras in my hands and I tried to honor them, but this was before digital cameras were any good and it was a more expensive, more time consuming hobby than it is now, and I dropped out of it.

At the time I also wanted to be “a good photographer” without being that interested in learning how to become one. I had taste, I had an expensive camera kit, why shouldn’t I be a good photographer?

I’d like to think I’m a little less naive now, and I’m definitely less concerned with “being good”. I intentionally think of this blog series as being my 10 “favorite” instead of my 10 “best” photographs. To be honest, I’m not even sure what criteria I’d use to decide which of my photographs are the best. Are they the ones that are framed better than the rest? Are they super-duper properly-exposed? Maybe they’re the photographs that make me look like I go cool places, or the ones that show off Berlin. Probably they’re the ones with the most cats in them.

Instead of thinking about my best photos, I think about my favorite photos, which is ultimately 100% subjective. And since this is my blog, well, there you go :)

August’s ten include some photos from the photo walk I did and documented more throughly here, plus the Landwehrkanal, our balcony, Kotbusser Tor, industrial Neukölln, and a lake we went to for a birthday party.

Overall a good month.

I have a feeling my next post will also be photography-based, as I’m moving into a new studio next week and will try to document that in an interesting way. Then, then, finally then! Then I’ll have some more collage work to share.
