Time Away from the Studio = a Successful Return to it

Due to some family holidays, a couple bike trips, and just life as it goes (so it goes) I’d not been in the studio for a while.

And, to be clear, I’m actually in my “studio” every day, because it’s also my living room and where I work from home, but being in the studio and “being in the studio” are two different states of mind.

Some coffee, some music, my work apron - I’m ready to go, even though I only had access to half of my supplies this morning. Turns out, for this particular Saturday morning, I only needed half and I’m really pleased with the results.

I think there are four successful collages here, which I all need to matte & properly photograph before they go up in the shop, so they’re technically not “done”…but creatively speaking, the hard work is behind me.

How long any one collage takes is always interesting to me. Of the four here that I’m calling done, one I put together in under ten minutes, while another took me around 45 minutes. And I don’t know if one could easily guess which was the quicker one.

And each of these features linoleum prints, plus several feature ink or marker drawings. Do I factor in the printing time, the carving time, the sketchbook time? Of course this isn’t a calculation that needs to be made, but it’s interesting to me.
