Letters home, dog-eared pages of favourite books, scraps of memories.
Can you have a Bildungsroman that ends up with a return to the Heimat? Thomas Wolfe wrote “You Can’t Go Home Again” which suggests not. I’m an ex-pat, so what the heck do I know about Heimat?
The book page serving as the basis of this collage is Ludwig Ganghofer’s 1915 Die Trutze von Trutzberg, which was turned into the Heimatfilm Der Schäfer vom Trutzberg in 1959. Does the girl get the nice guy, the titular shepherd, at the end of the film? You bet she does.
Mixed Media Collage: Linocut print, found paper, ink.
Note: Collage is sold matted but not framed.
The matted collage measures 300mm x 400mm, which is a standard frame size. Pictured frame is from gerstaecker.de.
