10 Photographs, December

It’s the first of January and here I am posting about 2024. You know we’ll never get anywhere if we keep looking behind, right?

Nah, that’s nonsense. Looking back is great and, frankly, that’s the entire point of the 10 photographs project. With this post I’m wrapping my second year of doing it and fingers-crossed it’ll continue through 2025 as well. I did slow down a bit in December and took fewer photos this month than any other in 2024. It’s no surprise that I take lots and lots of pictures while on holiday. It’s an ongoing challenge to take pictures around Berlin now that we’ve lived here for over six years. All the little quirks and details that jump out at you when you’re a tourist or new in town start to fade into the background.

December did feature one short trip to Poland, which features in 7 of the 10 photographs this month (the image above not included. Old furniture on the street is pure Berlin).

Getting there was two easy train trips - easy until we got off at the wrong station (pictured above right). We were meant to ride to the end of the line but I read the signs wrong and we got off one station early. Luckily at this point the stops were fairly close together and the people with whom we were staying were able to find us and bring us the rest of the way.

We were in Poland to get some new tattoos and Caroline was up first so I set out for a walk on a windy, muddy, rainy day. In one direction it was farmland as far as I could see but I didn’t have the proper shoes to trudge through the mud so after 20 minutes of farm roads I found my way back to a proper road and meandered to the nearby village.

Back in Berlin we did our best to finish off the year, which for me included a few walks along the canal and a ride down by Rummelsberger See, for my final photograph of 2024.

Happy new year friends.
